Image Annotator
Mark up a screenshot without opening an editor: arrows, boxes, text and highlights in a few clicks — and a real pixel blur over anything nobody else should read. The image never leaves your browser; export is a PNG.
The five tools a screenshot actually needs
Look at any annotated screenshot in a bug tracker: an arrow at the problem, a box around the area, three words of text, sometimes a highlight — and a blur over the account number. That is the entire toolset, so that is the entire toolbar. Colours are the site's own pigments, chosen to read on light and dark screenshots alike.
The blur deserves its note: it operates on the pixel data itself, inside the region you drag, with the same box-blur mathematics image editors use. What you export is what anyone will ever have — there is no original hiding underneath.
Frequently asked questions
Is the blur safe for passwords and personal data?
Yes — it is a real box blur baked into the pixels, applied three times, not a censor bar layered on top. The original values are averaged away in the exported file, and there is no 'layer' anyone could remove. For extra caution use a larger blur radius: text becomes unrecoverable once the glyphs are wider than the blur kernel.
Can I undo a step?
Every annotation is one undo step — arrows, boxes, text, pen strokes and blurs alike. 'Start over' returns to the freshly loaded image. There is no redo; drawing again is faster than a redo tree.
Why does export produce a PNG?
Screenshots are line art: flat colours, sharp edges, text. PNG stores that losslessly and keeps annotation edges crisp, where JPEG would halo every arrow. The exported image has the same pixel size as the original.
Can I paste straight from the clipboard?
Yes — press Ctrl+V (⌘V) with a copied screenshot and it loads immediately, which pairs naturally with the platform's screenshot shortcut. Copy to clipboard works the other way after annotating, where the browser allows image writing.
