Choose what to record

The browser will ask: whole screen, a window or a tab.

Offered by the browser for tabs, sometimes for screens — the picker has the checkbox.

The capture stream goes straight into a file in this tab. Nothing is uploaded, ever.

Record your screen, one window or one browser tab straight to a video file — with system audio and your microphone if you want them. Everything runs on the browser's own capture APIs; the recording never touches a server.

A screen recorder with no installer

Quick demos, bug reports, how-to clips for a colleague: most recordings are under two minutes and need no editing suite — they need to exist, immediately, without installing anything or creating an account. The browser has shipped everything required for years: getDisplayMedia asks the operating system for the pixels, MediaRecorder compresses them as they arrive, and the file is ready the instant you stop.

The privacy story is structural, not promised: the pixel stream is created by your browser, consumed in this tab, and written to a local file. The network panel shows nothing because there is nothing — which is more than can be said for recorder sites that "process" your video on their servers.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the recording go?

Into memory in this tab, then into the file you download — and nowhere else. There is no upload, no account and no processing queue; the moment you close the tab without downloading, the recording is gone for good.

Why is the file a WebM?

WebM with VP9 is what browsers record natively, and it plays in every modern browser and editor. Where VP9 is missing the tool falls back to VP8, and Safari records MP4. If a particular player refuses WebM, any converter can repackage it — the quality was set at recording time.

Can I record system audio?

For a browser tab — yes, tick the audio option in the browser's picker. For a whole screen it depends on the operating system: Windows offers it, macOS mostly does not. Your microphone can be mixed in regardless, with the checkbox here.

Is there a length limit?

Only memory. The recorder collects data in one-second chunks; an hour of 1080p screen activity is typically 200–500 MB, which a desktop handles fine. For very long sessions, prefer stopping and starting a fresh file now and then.
