SVG Optimizer
Drop or paste an SVG and shed what editors leave behind: XML prologs, comments, Inkscape and Illustrator metadata, editor-only attributes, whitespace between tags, and coordinate precision no screen can show. A text-level pass that never touches geometry — safe on logos, icons and plots alike.
An export is a workspace snapshot
What an editor saves is its own memory: which window was open, what zoom, which tool — encoded as namespaced attributes and metadata blocks riding along inside your logo. Browsers ignore every byte of it, and every byte still downloads. Optimization here is simply forgetting the editor's memory while keeping the drawing's.
The byte counter is measured on the real encoded output, and it is worth watching: an icon served on every page of a site pays its size on every visit, and a 60% cut on twenty icons is a real number on a real bill.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the savings actually come from?
Editor exports are mostly not drawing: Inkscape ships its window state, Illustrator its workspace comments, both write coordinates to six decimals — sub-nanometre precision on any real icon. Stripping the sediment routinely halves a file before any real minifier logic runs.
Is rounding coordinates safe?
At two decimals a coordinate is placed to a hundredth of a user unit — on a 24-unit icon that is far below what any screen renders. Raise the precision for large-viewBox technical drawings where units are metres; the slider exists because the safe answer depends on the viewBox, and you know yours.
Why does it never merge paths or remove groups?
Because structural rewrites need a full SVG parser and a model of what CSS, scripts and animations reference — remove a 'useless' group and a selector dies silently. The text-level pass makes only changes that cannot alter rendering, which is what lets it run on files it has never seen.
What should stay in a production SVG?
The viewBox always — it is the coordinate system. Keep title and desc when the image is content (accessibility reads them); keep ids that CSS or scripts target. This tool touches none of those; what it removes is only what no renderer, reader or stylesheet can see.
